Bremerhaven's port and the Weser river in Bremen - a place for all senses

Bremen - city by the river
The proximity to the river and green nature characterizes the life of the people of Bremen. The seafaring flair is still alive today and is particularly attractive to tourists. The people of Bremen and their guests can get up close and personal with the Weser on the Schlachte riverside promenade. The life of the city pulsates here, especially when the weather is nice. Since 2015, the Alexander von Humboldt has also been anchored at Schlachte as a hotel and restaurant ship. The striking three-masted barque with the green sails is known from international advertising, for which it was used by the Bremen brewery Beck's.
Where ships once sailed and general cargo was loaded, the Überseestadt district now enriches the image of Bremen. Following the steady decline of the maritime economy, a completely new, vibrant and innovative quarter has been developing here for several years. Whether harbor museum or black light miniature golf, event spaces or unusual restaurants, coffee roasters or producers of delicious spirits - Überseestadt combines Hanseatic tradition with innovative inventiveness.
Vegesack is located in the north of Bremen, where the Lesum flows into the Weser. The first artificial German port was built here almost 400 years ago. Today, the district no longer lives from fishing, but you can still follow in the footsteps of bygone days in Vegesack harbor with the story house, the small ships in the harbor basin and a bronze whale jaw.
Bremerhaven's ports as a place for all the senses
The ports are omnipresent in the seaside city of Bremerhaven. At around five kilometers, the container terminal has the longest continuous quay in Europe. Museum ships such as the side trawler FMS "Gera" and the historic three-master "Schulschiff Deutschland" illustrate what fishing and life on board looked like in the last hundred years. On the "Dicken Pötte Tour", visitors sail through the harbor from the water side.
The "Fishing Experience" takes you to the fishing port, which is one of the most important ports in Europe where fish is still processed today and is considered the global capital of fish stick production. In the fishing experience mile, restaurants line up next to traditional stores, the fish cooking studio stands next to hotels and vacation apartments and the tourist information including a bike station makes your stay even more pleasant. The latest attraction is the Fischbahnhof 360°, a staging that impressively presents the development of the fishing port and links it to the town's fishing history.
